Many people feel that the pandemic is unlikely to be anything to do with public health, that it has been engineered for a purpose just like Sars-Covid2 was being engineered in Wuhan as a bio-weapon. Now, granted, that sounds like a conspiracy theory to most people. They argue, why would governments resort to draconian measures and oppressive policies in order to force their will on their own citizens or deliberately wreck their own economies by disingenuously overreacting to alarmist reports from China, merely to suit their own purpose? But conspiracy sceptics might ask themselves, why all the bluff and double-speak as to lockdowns and the granting of freedoms for compliant behaviour? What is that all about? They might also ask, are governments autonomous agents in a globalist world where the enormous wealth of various players can enforce policy through financial inducements (bribery, in other words)? We know that certain individuals whose wealth is astronomical can bribe and corrupt governments and media outlets in order to enforce their vision of what constitutes an ordered and proper world on everyone else. That's why you have censorship and cancellation culture. Politicians, too, are subject to the prevailing zeitgeist (spirit of the age) the ideas that trickle down from the academies, the think-tanks, the globalist forums, the intellectual elites, the policy-makers. Ideas have consequences (I borrow the term from a book of the same title by the late American thinker and writer, Richard Weaver) And bad ideas can have bad consequences. Which is perhaps why we are where we are right now. The fetid airs of the eugenicists and Malthusians are still wafting through our institutions. And like the gods on Mount Olympus our guardians have now, perhaps, decided to make sport with us. We lesser mortals are only numbers, the masses, the great unwashed. And as too many people seek too few resources, our small planet can no longer sustain us. Thus goes the thinking. And now the gods of Olympus are in possession of the technology to digitally monitor us, to manipulate us through behavioural psychology, and even to curtail our numbers under the guise of health care. How Orwellian is that! Have the bad, the erroneous ideas taken over? Is the West mad with overthinking and overplanning? Perhaps we should adopt a more oriental approach to our perceived problems. I leave you with a thought from the Chinese Taoist philosopher, Lao-Tzu (600BC) "Governing a large nation is like frying a small fish. You spoil it with too much poking."
