Carbon dioxide makes up less than 4% of our atmosphere and is essential for plant growth. Methane makes up 0.00017% of our atmosphere but is more likely to retain heat. Industry, not cows or rice paddys, are the primary contributors of methane to our atmosphere. Feel sorry cows but feel for the pasture as well because they are disrupting a symbiotic biochemical relationship between the cattle, bacteria and plants. Industrial methane can take decades to degrade in the upper atmosphere but agricultural methane is emitted in the lowest part of the atmosphere where it nourishes the bacteria that help make soil fertile for plants

More methane is produced/released from the earth than any number of cows or humans farting. Landfills can be covered to collect the methane and then burned in turbine engines to power generators for electricity, etc.
