JFK: Years of Lightning, Day of Drums (1964, restored 11/2013)
This film was originally only shown to audiences overseas as a tribute to John Kennedy and his administration. Produced by the United States Information Service, but later an act of Congress allowed public showings in the US, and proceeds from theater showings went to building the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in New York. This film was recently restored with a donation from HBO and is an excellent tribute to JFK and his time. Excerpts from his speeches with much era footage used, and history is relived throughout this film. Those of us who lived through this time will remember how short his administration was, and this film is a wonderful reminder of what he accomplished and how he should be remembered. Excellent scripting narrated by Gregory Peck, directed by George Stevens, Jr. Well produced and touching.
