No, Kary Mullis did not invent the PCR "test". What Mullis invented was PCR, period. PCR, or polymerase chain reaction, is a technique, method, or process --- not a test. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1993 for inventing PCR. Mullis emphatically stated that PCR was not intended to be used as a diagnostic test. ⁣After his untimely death from "complications from pneumonia," Christian Drosten ⁣was credited with inventing the "real-time PCR" (RT-PCR) diagnostic test, and is also credited with co-discovering SARS COV.
