Making Free Diesel from waste plastic PART 5. What have I made????!!!
What have I done? - This is not Diesel!
Without insulation I can't get the machine hot enough to the critical temperature to distill diesel. What I have made today looks and feels like Tectyl- the rust preventative for car bodies. Coffee brown and waxy. Nothing goes to waste at Tiny House and Offgrid Resources though, It will get put back through the machine when I have the insulation and I can achieve that magic 350C diesel fraction threshold
also I have a few other issues to sort, but overall Im happy with this first run. The Thermometers are showing me that the condenser works superbly chilling the condensate to almost ambient temp (29C) from 220C. The reflux tube is losing too much heat - showing a drop of almost 100C from bottom to top, so that needs insulating The Retort Vessel only reached 300C toward the end of the 2 hour test, meaning that, that too needs a good layer of insulation.
