1. rtPCR is referred to as the "Gold standard" for confirming the presence of SARS-CoV.
2. PCR is NOT a TEST it is a laboratory procedure for the amplification of nucleotide fragments.
Point 1 can only be true iff the specificity of the primer is such that only SARS-CoV specific nucleotide fragments are detected and no other. Thus, the specificity of the procedure should be receiving the highest priority NOT the number of PCR cycles.
Discussions should refrain from using the terminology "PCR test" rather "PCR assay" or "PCR laboratory procedure". Any narrative that references "Gold standard" should be treated with a great deal of scepticism especially when presented by Corrporations and Global bodies like the WHO.
